YouVersion

Is it odd that I would mention LifeChurch.tv’s Bobby Gruenewald on the blog two days in a row? I thought so at first, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that I could probably mention LifeChurch.tv and Bobby everyday, given all of the innovative things they are doing with media and technology.

Today, however, I’d like to focus on YouVersion, a LifeChurch.tv project that is in develpment.  For a proper description of what YouVersion is all about, I’ll take the easy route and paste copy from their website:

A revolutionary online Bible that enables community and collaboration like never before. Choose from various translations and read Scripture in a fresh, new way. Take personal study notes, and discover and contribute audio, video, text and images. With YouVersion, you will find communities of people exploring and interacting with God’s Word.

If you take the tour of YouVersion functionality and subscribe to the YouVersion blog (they post one of 100 “things you can do with YouVersion” each day), you’ll see that YouVersion is probably the most innovative combination of Web 2.0 and Christianity to date. Even though the project is only in Alpha at this point, I’m really excited about the possibilities. After all, it’s not every day that a website that could change the way people interact with the Bible in the 21st century hits Alpha. I probably shouldn’t put it in the same tier at Gutenberg’s printing press just yet, but I love the potential.
