There’s a new post on Mashable that, whether you’re a web developer or not, I think you should take a look at: What the Web of Tomorrow Will Look Like: 4 Big Trends to Watch. Obviously, no one knows exactly what the Web will look like in 3, 5, 10, 15, or 20 years. But we can guess, just as Mashable’s Ben Parr has done, based on current trends.
As you browse the Web this week, think about your usage and how it differs from your usage 5 years ago. Is it more mobile? More social? More multimedia-driven? Is it more real-time? How much of your favorite content is generated by big corporations and how much of it comes from individuals and small companies? As you evaluate your usage, consider the Web usage patterns of others in your circles. Chances are, there’s some variance there.
As you make plans for your church’s or ministry’s website this year, you don’t have to worry about what the Web will look like in 5 years. But it wouldn’t hurt to start thinking about it. It wouldn’t hurt to explore the changing ways in which our culture (and the world) engages the Web. It wouldn’t hurt to consider how your website can best serve members and complete strangers today, tomorrow, and 5 years from now.
Are you already thinking about tomorrow’s Web as it pertains to your website? Are there any trends — on Mashable’s list or otherwise — that you’re taking into account?
