After enduring the unfortunate and extremely public Ted Haggard situation, New Life Church in Colorado Springs, CO is now dealing with a different kind of tragedy. According to news reports, a gunman entered New Life Church yesterday afternoon at about 1 p.m. and shot five people, killing sisters age 16 and 18, before being shot and killed by armed security. Please keep the families of those affected by this tragedy, as well as the entire New Life family in your prayers.
On a personal note, this takes me back to the shooting at Wedgwood Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, TX in 1999. I had several friends and classmates in the Wedgwood sanctuary that Wednesday night, when a gunman burst in and began firing on youth and youth workers at post-See You At The Pole rally. I was unable to attend because of some leadership responsibilities at my church, but the flier handed to me by Wedgwood’s youth minister was still sitting on my desk at home.
Having seen the pain and grief that such a tragedy can inflict upon individuals and an entire community, I know New Life covets your prayers and support during this difficult time. In fact, much of the Colorado faith community is probably reeling from the recent acts of violence in the area. Please help and support them in any way you can.
