Jon & Kate Have An Announcment To Make

| By Scott McClellan | Found in Communication | 3 Comments

Based on promos like the one featured in the AP video above, it looks like tonight’s episdoe of Jon & Kate Plus Eight will shed some light on the future (or a lack thereof) for Jon and Kate’s marriage and the show itself. I haven’t said much on this topic yet, but a lot of people are weighing in so I thought I would, too.

[Insert rebuke about the sanctity of marriage]

[Insert lecture about the seductiveness and destructiveness of fame]

[Insert reminder that money isn't everything]

[Insert sub-lecture about a culture in which paparazzi are rewarded for their loathsome vocation]

[Insert rant about how a Christian family should've known better]

[Insert admonition to the rest of us to learn from all of this]

[Insert posturing about how I saw this storm brewing back in Season One]

[Insert call for boycott of gossip sites and reality shows]

[Insert warning about putting people on pedestals]

[Insert slap on the wrist for all of us who've passed judgment on the family]

[Insert closing prayer for all involved and families everywhere]

Thanks for reading my assessment of and solution to the J&K+8 situation. Did I leave anything out?

It’ll be interesting to see what, if any, resolution tonight’s announcement brings. Either way, the show’s declining ratings (from 9.8 million for the season premiere to 2.9 million two weeks later) suggest that few are clamoring for the status quo.

Yeah. It's one thing to watch fictional drama on TV but it's not cool to see this happening to a real family with 8 kids that have real emotions. Not really something I wanna watch when I know it's true and not just a script. Usually juicy stuff gets ratings, right? I wonder if the producers are surprised by the drop.

[...] been said about the tragic downfall of this family. (See Collide’s great post on this subject here.) It seemed inevitable; reports have painted Jon as uncomfortable with the media attention, and [...]

Marriage is hard. Marriage with eight children in the limelight would be infinately harder. This couple needed to be immersed in prayer and godly counsel throughtout and before problems were evident. For all of those “fans” who seem to care, prayer is still in order. God is a God of restoration, and even this situation is not hopeless. Wouldn’t it be cool to see God do some healing on TLC… :)
