Free

Free is all the rage these days. Don’t believe me? Wired Editor-in-Chief Chris Anderson recently proclaimed “$0.00 is the future of business.” A couple of free projects have debuted recently and I think you should check them out.

Before Radiohead’s name-your-own-price experiment with In Rainbows, Derek Webb gave his Mockingbird album away for free via FreeDerekWebb.com to anyone who agreed to share their email address and the email address of a few friends who might also be interested in the free album. Almost two years removed from the Mockingbird giveaway, Webb and some friends have finally launched NoiseTrade.com–a site that essentially connects musicians and music fans who are willing to keep the experiment alive. If you’re willing to trade your email address for free tunes from independent artists and familiar names like Webb, Sandra McCracken, and Waterdeep, head over to the site and get started.

Another free site worth visiting is OpenResources.org. The recently-launched site is the brainchild of John Falke, a graphic artist in Virginia. It looks like John has been busy designing free church media resources and uploading them to OpenResources, so browse through the freebies and download at will.

For more free resources, check out this COLLIDE Blog post from over a year ago. If you have a good source for free media, be sure to share it in the comments below.
